Tempest attended the University of Houston, from which she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Master’s degree in Accountancy and Taxation. That same year, she earned her credentials as a Texas Certified Public Accountant, having passed each part of the examination on the first attempt.

Tempest has worked as an accountant for both private and public companies, and has worked in public accountancy at a CPA firm, where she concentrated in tax and bookkeeping services.
